SNEAK PEEK | BADIO'S #BAD TAPE

Tucson, AZ artist-on-the-rise, (my name danny) BADIO, is at it again – bringing us the much anticipated #BAD mixtape dropping 12.25.11, choked full of tracks that you can cruise/relate/vibe/party to! The FinallyMade and Frenchkind affiliate’s buzz is definitely still strong (and growing) after the mid-may release of #WHATSBADIO. Mixing his bold VA swagger with an unprecedented, creatively dope flow, BADIO has created a unique niche all his own. Having seen him rock live crowds, I can tell you first and foremost, this dude is no gimmick! Plus, to say his sound is known around town is an understatement! Without further ado, let’s get into this raw, raspy, non-candy-coated tape, #BAD.

If an intro is any indication for what’s to follow, he starts out with references to both hockey and Mary Magdalene …enough said. I respect the ingenuity of any rapper who’s able to be versatile by incorporating new beats, familiar instrumentals, female hooks, major-label features, comical interludes, shoutouts, fitting samples and metaphors/similes that’ll make you double-take. Some of my favorite lines include: “I hope this room ain’t Lorainna Bobby’s”, “plottin on poppin’ in dubai ..bye”, “look, see, my attitude too tropic”, “got ya b*tch in a trance, no mission”, “got curves like the smile on the Grinch”, “grabbed my telly like a tubby”, “now I’m getting more f*ckin calls than Vlade Divac”, “fresher than the Pope’s Maybach”, “kisses like Jada’s” and “probably why these faces on my pole like a totem”. His bars are laced with Tucson references, conversation, (harsh) ‘real-talk’, complex wordplay, stories and they even hint at politics.

Badio keeps his lane positive and embraces any negativity: ‘please baby, blow a kiss to my haters’ and ‘but really though, I’m complemented, by all your actions’. The release has been preceded by some behind-the-scenes visuals, watch them here and here! Features on the tape (may) include Yuri Jones, Young Scolla, Madman, Dibbz Dreek, Ezko, Lil Twist, AppleJax, Nike Nando, Monsieur Glace, Jae High, Universal Daughter, The Original Saku and FK members. Although “it’s kinda hard when your heart got a twitter page”, I almost guarantee you’ll be putting BAD behind a hashtag (and on your ipod) sooner than you think! Get familiar folks, it may be called #BAD, but it’s definitely not bad by any sense of the term!
